Artist Statement

My goal is to be spectacular. Like life, art has a space for color, abstraction and ambiguity. I have chosen to pursue the latter. Art is a home for everything I enjoy and everything that repulses me. We witness the uncanny, a deja vu when we indulge in the creation of another. The relationship I have with imagery can be described as love at first sight. Imagery has now manifested itself in my life through my career path. I identify with the contrast of life; black and white, good and bad, happy and sad. I find this balance rather charming. This is what I display in my pieces through the use of color, lines, shapes, form and texture. As an artist, my practice heavily relies on the use of colors and materials such as canvas, paper, oil pastels, charcoal pencils, oil paint, acrylic paint and found objects. These give my work drama as well as attitude. My work is often tangible yet I do not shy away from digital works suck as photography. I label myself as a creative, which encompasses being more than a painter but at times a sculptor and photographer.

Growing up in the Bahamas has greatly influenced my work. Because the ocean and landscape are so vibrant Bahamian people’s style, decor and choices tend to reflect this vibrancy, self included. Tropical and aquatic imagery are also common in my work. This aesthetic can also be seen in Miami and the Keys. After moving to Florida, I kept the color and have embraced geometric forms, working on a larger scale and minimizing my pallet to either analogous colors or complimentary colors. I see the world around me and I use material and media to relay each moment to an audience for them to see the world from my perspective. My ultimate goal is to be a visual artist with the intent to teach on a college level
